Papers & Essays

My first academic essay was published in 1990 and was dedicated to P.C. Hooft’s „Baeto“ (1617). As a literary historian, I remained loyal to the early modern period for a long time, but since my appointment as Professor of Niederländische Philologie: Literaturwissenschaft at the Freie Universität Berlin in 2000, I have also been working on modern and contemporary Dutch-language literature.

Two authors are of particular interest to me: Joost van den Vondel (1587-1679) and Louis Ferron (1942-2005). Vondel because I admire his theater work, and Ferron because I am fascinated by the role that Germany and German history play in his work.

On this page you will be directed to my publications in the field of (I.) the Middel Ages, (II.) the 16. and 17. centuries, (III.) the 18. and 19. centuriess and (IV.) the 20. and 21. centuries. Most of my essays can now be read digitally, and in all these cases you can click through to the relevant websites.
